KNOU dispatched a delegation to Uganda from February to March 2025 to conduct key activities for the “Project for Enhancing the Distance Education Environment at Makerere University (MAK) in Uganda.” 

The delegation included Professor Yong Kim (Department of Edutech), Professor Ock Tae Kim (Department of Media Arts & Sciences), Senior Research Fellow Yangmi Koo (Prime College), Changyeol Yang (Team Head of the Office of International Affairs), and Producers Hanuk Lee and Yungseok Lee from the Digital Media Center. During the visit, the team held consultations for drafting the master plan, installed a micro-studio for producing video-based lecture content, and created a promotional video for the project.

From February 15 to March 6, while staying in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, the KNOU delegation provided hands-on support for developing the distance education environment. In particular, the team collaborated with MAK to discuss strategies for establishing a distance education system in Uganda and prepared a step-by-step implementation plan that considered the needs of faculty and students. These efforts helped set a foundational direction for building a sustainable distance education environment.

The project’s launch ceremony was held at MAK on February 27. Key attendees included the Vice Minister of Education of Uganda, the President of MAK, the Korean Ambassador to Uganda, the Director of Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Overseas Office in Uganda, and the Project Manager at the Korea Development Strategy Institute (KDS). Participants highlighted the importance of the project and discussed its anticipated benefits for the distance education environment.

Additionally, the KNOU team supported the setup of the micro-studio to help faculty member of MAK to create online lectures more effectively, which is expected to improve the quality of distance education in Uganda. The promotional video produced during the visit will also serve to raise awareness of the project’s significance and achievements.
