Korea National Open University (KNOU / President Song-hwan Ko) conducted the second invitational training program from Friday, July 4, to Saturday, July 19, as part of the KOICA Project for Enhancing the Distance Education Environment at Makerere University in Uganda. The program targeted faculty members and administrative staff of Makerere University.

This second training follows the initial session held in February 2025. KNOU focused on strengthening the capacity of Makerere University’s faculty and IT staff to directly develop distance education content. Practical activities included drafting model-based lecture materials, recording and editing model-based content, and hands-on studio operation practice.

On July 7, KNOU held a welcoming ceremony at the main auditorium. Attendees included Prof. Song-hwan Ko (President of KNOU), Prof. Jaehyung Kim (Dean of the Office of International Affaris), Prof. Jin Gon Shon (Project Manager), Prof. Yong Kim (Department of Edutech), Prof. Ock Tae Kim (Department of Media Arts & Sciences), and 18 Makerere University delegations.

In his welcoming remarks, President Ko stated, “The second training program has been designed with a practical focus to enhance on-site applicability. We hope this training will serve as an opportunity to share educational experiences between the two countries and explore ways to apply them effectively in each institution.”

Godfrey Mayende, Deputy Director of Institute of Open Distance and eLearning at Makerere University, remarked, “This training provided an opportunity to experience Korea’s outstanding distance education system firsthand and consider how it can be integrated into our university’s educational environment. We look forward to KNOU’s collaboration contributing significantly to the digital transformation of higher education in Uganda.”
